Transferring a Facebook Profile Username to a Facebook Page

Have you accidently registered your Facebook page username as your profile page instead?

Someone at work did the same for a client's Facebook page and we had printed material that was ready to go out on shelves - Luckily I managed to rectify the situation and avert disaster!

Facebook username? you might be wondering what that is, well this is a URL like: www.facebook.com/companyname and it will take users directly to your Facebook Page.

There are a couple of steps you need to get it transferred:

  1. Your Facebook Page should have at least 25 likes, you cannot register a username without 25 likes and they will probably not transfer a username to the page without them.

  2. The profile you used to register the page should be the admin of the page, obviously if you have registered your username as your profile instead of your page by mistake this will be the case.

  3. NOTE: On step 3. below I DID NOT fill out the trademark information on the form, I just explained the mistake that had been made.

  4. Fill out the following form on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=username_infringement and explain your situation in the box provided

It took Facebook less than 24 hours to rectify the situation and our major disaster was averted.

I also posted on a Facebook discussion and you can see that this worked for other people too: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=10381469571&topic=21365&post=114815

Hope this helps you solve your Facebook issue.

UPDATE: Facebook now offer a way to convert a Profile in to a Business Page. The information can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=18918

Note the following before doing this: Be aware that when you convert your profile to a Page, your profile pictures will be transferred, and all of your friends will be automatically added as people who like your Page. No other content will be carried over to your new Page, so be sure to save any important content before beginning your migration.

The account associated with the profile you previously maintained will be converted to a business account, which will be the sole admin of your new Page.

Again I hope this information is useful and helps solve your Facebook issue.

  5. Hey Kunji,

I don't really understand what you mean by

NOTE: On step 3. below I DID NOT fill out the trademark information on the form, I just explained the mistake that had been made.

So you filled out everything from your name, telephone, email what have you the only thing you didn't fill out is the trademark registration number? Then the very last box talking about the website Url is the one I want changed?

  6. @DJ Maximus just had a look at the form and the field at the bottom is new!

It looks like you put the facebook URL you accidentally registered as your profile in there if you want that to become your facebook page URL so: www.facebook.com/username.

    Hope that helps :o)
